WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR HANDLING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS?
Proper shipping of hazmat requires strict compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and any applicable, additional requirements:
- Materials must be classified according to the DOT Safety Data Sheet and Hazardous Materials Table.
- Based on the classification, amount, and size of the hazardous goods, they must be packaged pursuant to regulatory requirements — and labeled accordingly. Instructions for handling and disassembling the freight may need to appear on the packaging, for example, along with whatever class information, orientation arrows, and other shipper information may be outlined.
All dangerous goods documentation and related paperwork should be clear and properly detailed both to comply with rules and regulations and to prevent unnecessary delays.
We are experienced with shipping hazmat and dangerous goods — materials that, if not handled properly, can cause human and environmental harm, expensive remediation and cleanup, and serious legal ramifications. That’s why we carry ourselves to high, exacting standards and demand strict compliance with all regulatory and safety protocols.
